Find answers to common questions about Indonesia e-Visa requirements and documentation.

Requirements

What documents do I need for an Indonesia e-Visa application?

The basic documents required for an Indonesia e-Visa application include:

  • Valid passport with at least 6 months validity from your planned date of entry
  • Recent passport-sized photograph (digital format)
  • Travel itinerary including flight details and accommodation
  • Proof of sufficient funds for your stay
  • Return or onward ticket

Additional documents may be required depending on your visa type, such as invitation letters for Business or Social-Cultural visas. For a complete list of requirements, please visit our Requirements page.

What are the passport requirements for an Indonesia e-Visa?

Your passport must meet the following requirements for an Indonesia e-Visa application:

  • Valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned date of entry to Indonesia
  • Have at least two blank pages for stamps
  • Be in good condition without damage, tears, or unauthorized modifications
  • Be a regular passport (diplomatic, official, or service passports may have different requirements)

If your passport does not meet these requirements, you should renew it before applying for an e-Visa.

What are the photo requirements for an Indonesia e-Visa?

Your photo for an Indonesia e-Visa application must meet the following specifications:

  • Size: 35mm x 45mm (passport size)
  • Background: Plain white
  • Recency: Taken within the last 6 months
  • Quality: Clear, in focus, and in color
  • Head position: Facing forward, with full face visible
  • Expression: Neutral expression with mouth closed
  • Eyes: Open and clearly visible (no sunglasses or tinted glasses)
  • Head coverings: Not allowed except for religious purposes
  • Digital format: JPEG or PNG with a maximum file size of 2MB

Photos that do not meet these requirements may result in delays or rejection of your application.

How much money do I need to show as proof of sufficient funds?

While there's no officially specified amount, a general guideline is to show that you have at least $100 per day for the duration of your planned stay in Indonesia. This can be demonstrated through:

  • Recent bank statements
  • Credit card statements
  • Traveler's cheques
  • Sponsorship letter (if applicable)

The key is to show that you have enough funds to support yourself during your visit without needing to work illegally. The amount may vary depending on your accommodation plans, travel itinerary, and length of stay.

Do I need travel insurance for an Indonesia e-Visa?

While travel insurance is not officially mandatory for most e-Visa applications, it is strongly recommended. In some cases, particularly during health emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia may require proof of travel insurance with specific coverage (such as medical evacuation and COVID-19 treatment).

Even when not required, having comprehensive travel insurance protects you from unexpected medical expenses, trip cancellations, and lost luggage, making it a wise investment for any international travel. We recommend obtaining insurance that covers the entire duration of your stay in Indonesia.

What if I don't have a hotel booking yet?

If you haven't finalized your accommodation plans, you can provide tentative hotel bookings that cover your intended stay period. Many hotels and booking platforms offer free cancellation options, which you can use to secure a reservation for visa purposes.

Alternatively, if you're staying with friends or family, you can provide a letter of invitation from your host along with their contact information and address in Indonesia. The key is to demonstrate that you have accommodation arrangements for the duration of your stay.

Do I need to translate my documents if they're not in English or Indonesian?

Yes, if your supporting documents are in a language other than English or Indonesian, you should provide certified translations. The translations should be done by a professional translator and include a statement certifying the accuracy of the translation along with the translator's contact information.

For important documents like invitation letters or business documents, having proper translations helps ensure your application is processed without delays. Unofficial or machine translations may not be accepted and could lead to application rejection.

Do I need to pay additional fees when I arrive in Indonesia?

Generally, there are no additional visa fees to pay upon arrival in Indonesia if you have a valid e-Visa. However, if you plan to extend your visa while in Indonesia, you will need to pay extension fees to the local immigration office.

Additionally, when departing Indonesia, there may be an airport tax or departure tax, which is often included in your airline ticket price. It's always a good idea to have some local currency available for any unexpected fees or requirements that may arise during your travel.

Can I pay in my local currency?

While our fees are listed in US Dollars (USD), our payment system automatically converts the amount to your local currency at the current exchange rate when you make a payment with your credit/debit card or digital wallet.

The conversion is handled by your payment provider, and you'll see the exact amount in your local currency before confirming the payment. Please note that your bank or card issuer may apply additional foreign transaction fees, which are separate from our visa processing fees.
